Welch Village is the only licensed PMTS Direct Parallel ski school in the country. Carvers teaches expert movements from the first run, without the wedge.
About Welch Carvers
Welch Village is the only licensed PMTS Direct Parallel ski school in the country. PMTS Direct Parallel does not use the wedge, or snow plow. Every movement taught uses modern ski design to create and maintain balance, and the system teaches expert skiing movements to all ability levels.
Carvers is the signature ski instruction program for kids at Welch Village. Whether your child has recently started skiing or wants to ski more challenging terrain with more confidence, Carver coaches work to your family’s goals using the PMTS Direct Parallel system.
Carvers is not a beginner program. To register, skiers must be able to ride the chairlift without the assistance of an adult and already ski green runs while controlling speed and making turns. Skiers who do not meet these requirements will be asked to enroll in another lesson program and will pay added fees to transfer or refund. See Ski Lessons for beginner options.
Parents: the Carver Camps in December and March are open to skiers age 6 and older. If you would rather take a lesson yourself while your child is in Carvers, see the weekend lesson options.
Saturday Carvers
ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
Carvers is the signature ski instruction program for kids at Welch Village, taught on the PMTS Direct Parallel system. Six consecutive Saturdays with the same coach and the same small group, so progress compounds week over week.
Coaches provide weekly feedback to parents on how the skier is progressing. The instructor to student ratio is kept low so every skier gets real coaching time.
Available to kids ages 8 – 14
Rarely does Welch Village close for weather reasons. Program days are not interchangeable. Students may only attend the program day that is purchased. If for some reason the ski area is closed due to a weather event, the make-up session will be used. Make up sessions are not available for sickness or any other conflict.
A lift ticket or season pass is required in order to participate in this program.
Fee does not include a lift ticket, season pass or rental equipment.

Race Carvers
ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
Race Carvers introduces ski racing to junior intermediate skiers who have already done Carvers and want to prepare for the Junior D-Team, or who want extra technique work and race gate practice.
Athletes are coached in small groups by experienced Carver coaches and junior race coaches, so there is plenty of practice time and a high degree of personal feedback.
Race Carvers is NOT a beginner skiing program. Students must be able to ride all Welch Village chairlifts unassisted and must be able to ski all green and blue runs at Welch Village while controlling speed by making turns. If a student is skiing in a wedge on day one, the Carvers program is a better choice. Students who do not meet these requirements will be asked to enroll in a different program and could be required to pay added fees to transfer or fees to process a refund.
