



Friends don't let friends teach friends! So come out to Welch Village and take a lesson from a pro. Certified ski and snowboard instructors are on-site to help you get better, faster. We want you to meet some of the pros in our learning center. All the people below are certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) or by the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI). Either way... you're going with a pro.

Christian Bauerecker This is Christian Bauerecker, our Level 2 Certified Instructor with skiing in his blood (he's Austrian ya know!). He says, "You've gotta take a lesson to enjoy the sport. You can choose where you want to ski, and lessons can teach you intimate parts of the sport." He has skied from the glaciers of Saalbach, Austria to the groomers of Welch Village and he's still having fun. Christian came to the United States in 1974, when asked why he states, "I knew a couple of girls." It's worth taking a lesson with him just to hear the rest of the story. |

Gary Bieniek Waist deep champagne powder doesn't occur as frequently as most would like in Minnesota. So guys like Gary go hunting for it. Gary, an 8 year instructor at Welch, loves a good powder day at Alta in Utah... but he's happy to settle for turns on Dan's Dive when he's working at Welch. |

John Dunphy When asked why people should take a lesson, Dunphy says, "I'm the classic example. I was self taught for 10 years. I developed bad habits and I should have had a lesson...I should have learned the right way from the beginning." That was then, this is now. NOW, he's in his 12th year of instructing and is a Level 2 PSIA instructor. |

Jack Hurst This is Jack Hurst. He is kinda like the teacher's teacher, the trainer's trainer, a Midwestern snowboarding sensai. Jack is one of just a few snowboard instructors in the Midwest who run the clinics that certify professional snowboard instructors. What does that mean? Well, he knows a lot about the sport, and has taught dozens of instructors around the Midwest how to teach the sport of snowboarding. Dennis Jasperson Laid back like his favorite resorts in Montana and Idaho, Dennis Jasperson is a 17 year veteran instructor at Welch Village. He's been a certified professional instructor for 17 years and loves the sport. He says, "Skiing is a sport that allows parents and kids to spend time together." And being together with other skiers is what Dennis enjoys most. In his trips to the mountains he content to visit quaint local restaurants and and strike up conversations in the hot tubs at Bridger Bowl. |

Joel Krueger When it comes to kids, Joel is an expert! Not only does Joel have 4 kids of his own (10, 7, and twin 5 year olds), he has been teaching kids at Welch Village for 17 seasons. He says, "I love teaching kids because they enjoy learning the sport of skiing." If your child takes a lesson with Joel, he or she will ski on Joel's favorite runs - Mt. Buckley, Long Way Home, and Harley's Hollow. |

Dick Leibbrand Dick has been skiing for 25 years and has been a certified instructor of 13 years. He is a Level 3 PSIA instructor (that's serious training!) Dick can teach anyone, but specializes in teaching experienced skiers how to tackle the steeps and moguls of Welch Village. His favorite run at the resort is Dud's Dream with plenty of moguls... and if he lived in Colorado, he'd spend his days on the backside of Peak 10 at Breckenridge. |

Dawn Makarios She loves to travel and explore lots of resorts with her snowboard. The tree runs at Beaver Creek Colorado, the glaciers at Chamonix France, and a few hundred hot tubs in between. She's always encouraging beginners and people with the fear of snowboarding to attempt the sport. "Get out on a snowboard and try it!" says Dawn... she's an 8 year snowboard veteran... so you should listen. |

Ebbie Makarios When Ebbie was a boy, he was a suburban kid on the swim team and taking piano lessons. Now that he's all grown up, he owns a 225 acre farm just a few minutes away, and is at the resort every weekend. Ebbie is a level 2 PSIA ski instructor who relates the turn of a ski like the turn of motorcyle. "The physics of the turn are the same in skiing and riding a motorcycle. Looking into the turn and getting on the edge are almost identical." As for his motorcycle Ebbie explains, "I have a Triumph Speed Triple. You know the lady in the Matrix? That's what she was driving. Cool, huh!" |

Carol Paulson Carol is a woman... and she loves teaching them! Although she has taught nearly every type of lesson, she specializes in female beginners. Carol has been a PSIA certified Level 1 ski instructor for 9 years, and she loves skiing at Welch. If Carol had to choose a favorite ski resort (other than Welch Village!), she would choose Alta. She can't get enough of that gourmet powder. |

Brian Vogelsang When this former Steamboat and Taos ski instructor found himself in Minnesota, he did what most of us would do... he headed to the hills. Brian's currently instructing at Welch Village on weekends, and when he isn't instructing you might find him at his favorite apre ski venue - King's Restaurant in Miesville. |
